Situated on the southern tip of the Deccan Plateau, Wayanad is an area of immense bio
diversity that offers breathtaking locations with mist clad hills, lush green paddy fields,
luxuriant sub tropical rainforests, sprawling spice plantations, valleys and hills. Hidden away
in the forests of Wyanad are some of the oldest tribes as yet untouched by civilization.

Places of interest:

Chembara Peak The tallest peak in the range that winds its way through Wayanad,
Chembara, at 2100metres above sea level is an exhilarating four hour trek from the base of
the mountain. It is also possible to camp midway.

Edakkal Caves 12km from the small town of Sulthan Bathery and accessible only by a
trekking trail, the Edakkal Caves are natural caves formed by giant stones on each other.
New Stone Age pictorial writings on the walls are evidence of the pre historic civilization that
existed here.

Kuruva Island This is a breathtaking 950 acre wooded island surrounded by rivulets and is
ideal for camping and peaceful nature trails.

Meenkutty Waterfalls Meenkutty is the largest and most spectacular waterfall in

Pakshpathalam Bird Sanctuary - The sanctuary is accessible only by trekking and houses
many rare species of birds.

Pookot Lake This is a perennial fresh water lake nestled among the hills offering
breathtaking views and is ideal for boating.

Sentinel Rock Waterfalls Known locally as Soochipara this waterfall derives its name from
the needle like granite stones shaped by the falling water.

Thirunelly Temple Situated amidst spectacular scenic settings and surrounded by the
Brahmagiri peaks.

Wayanad Widlife Sanctuary Spread over more than 300km, this sanctuary is a haven for
many species of birds and animals. Whilst elephants and deer can be seen frequently, you
can get an occasional sighting of tigers and panthers as well.
